Rotary Scholarship
The scholarship program improves the life and education possibilities for high potential primary school graduates from challenging social – economic circumstances.

Students are offered homework guidance 3 times a week, transportation, lunch, extracurricular activities (sports, art etc.) of their choice and professional psychological support when deemed necessary from the brugklas until they graduate, 1 student at the time.

The scholarship program is now in its 12th year. This successful program has expanded from just 6 students in the 2011/2012 school year to 18 students in the 2021/2022 year. And right now we have already 24 students!

Every success story counts and opens doors to a better future. With your help we will be able to increase this successful program to our goal of 30 students.

Watch this video for more information about the Rotary Scholarship.

Due to privacy reasons we can't show pictures of the students.

Busproject

The Rotary Busproject- going strong for almost 50 years!

“Every child should get a chance to get to know her or his island better.” Rotarian Huub Bongers once said. Huub noticed that many children never made trips to parts of the island outside their immediate living surroundings,---some children had never even seen the sea!

He therefore, with a number of other Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Curacao, started the Rotary Bus Project on December 18, 1974. The idea was to every two weeks bring children of the basic schools to a nice destination of their choice.

From 2021 onwards, the children are being picked up in a tour bus, a luxury air-conditioned tour bus because they often see tourists driving around in these buses but usually they never did. You should see the anticipation on their faces when such a bus comes to pick them up at their school!

The idea has always remained the same, namely to give the children an educational & fun experience combined with a snack and a drink! Children come to places on our beautiful island where they have never been before!

The Rotary Bus Project, that has now become a tradition has by now brought more than 28,500 children to all sorts of destinations!.

A big thank you goes to attractions such as the Children's Museum, the Hato Caves, Carmabi and the Ostrich Farm, which often have a social entrance fee, as well as to the bus companies such as FTBB (Taber), Blue Angel Tours, TM tours and also to the Rotary Bus Project Team - Aschia Daswani, Hans van Aalst, JanPieter Herwijer, Arnoud Vossen, Heidi Getrouw, Gwido Jansen and all the fellows who sometimes accompany the tours but also donate weekly to make the tours possible!

The Rotary Club of Curaçao is dedicated to promoting health and well-being, focusing on youth through its "Rotary Positive Lifestyle Promotors" initiative. As part of this commitment, the club is launching two key campaigns: 1) Attacking Obesity and 2) It's Time for Mental Health.

These campaigns aim to actively reduce childhood obesity and improve mental health and resilience among young people. Here are some of the projects and events the Rotary Club of Curaçao is planning to support these goals:

  1. Hydration and Health Education: The club plans to install water coolers at some local schools, coupled with educational programs for both teachers and students on the importance of staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and making healthy food choices.

  2. Sports and Self-Esteem: A new basketball court will be built, and the Rotary Club will sponsor introductory lessons. The aim is not only to encourage physical activity but also to boost self-esteem, foster friendships, and teach teamwork through sports.

  3. Un Smile pa Korsou: This project (already up and running) provides free dental check-ups in various neighborhoods. Parents also receive information on the importance of dental health for their children. Rotary is proud to support this much needed, prived initiative.

Funds raised by the Rotary Club of Curaçao will directly support these type of initiatives and more to come, which align with our mission as "Positive Lifestyle Promotors".

Issued: 20.000 tickets, numbered 1.001 to 21.000, with a value of XCG 10,- per ticket. Approved by the Curaçao Gaming Authority.
The prize will be forfeited to the Rotary Foundation if the winner does not collect their prize(s) within six months after the drawing. The winning numbers will be drawn on December 12, 2025 under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice and will be announced on TeleCuraçao in the 'Bo Trai Merdia' program the same day. Winning numbers can be checked by scanning the QR code on this ticket or on the Facebook page and website of the Rotary Club of Curacao.

Thanks to initiatives from the island, it has become possible for the Jostiband to make an inspiring musical and educational visit to Curaçao.

With the project “Curaçao meets Jostiband”, the orchestra shows that people with intellectual disabilities are often capable of much more than many think—and that making music is above all about joy, connection, and possibilities.
